DEADLY BLESSING

United Artists / R / 100 minutes / Directed by: Wes Craven

A couple living next to a mysterious Amish colony (actually, I believe they are Hittites, a sect of the Amish) aren’t exactly friendly with their neighbors who refer to the wife (Maren Jensen) as the incubus.  When the husband, a former Hittite himself, is killed in a strange tractor accident, Jensen is left to face the creepy Hittites along with her friends who have arrived to console her played by Sharon Stone and Susan Buckner.  The women experience all sorts of strange happenings including poisonous spiders  and a large snake slipped into a bathtub while one of them, oblivious, bathes.  The snake scene alone creeps me out.

I mean how can you go wrong with Ernest Borgnine as a seemingly evil Hittite cult leader!

This under-seen Wes Craven (A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET) film is thankfully now available on Blu-ray Disc in a great collector’s edition from Scream Factory, Shout! Factory’s horror label.
